VAMPIRES
APPEARANCE: They look like normal people. They do tend to be much paler than they may have been in life. Born vampires are fair, but not ghostly. They can pass as real humans. Their skin gets ashy though. As a vampire gets it's fangs, it may have darker eyes, but this subsides. Sometimes they're even lighter than they were before. The older the vampire, the lighter the eyes.
ABILITIES: Hypersensitivity to smell and feeling. They can distinguish between the slightest of scents and are more sensitive to touch. If the floor vibrates even just a little, they'll know. They can hear pretty well too, about ten times farther than a human, if in open space. Walls aren't as easy to breech. They are fast, able to move without being seen and very nimble. You won't hear them either. They cannot glamour humans, because they rarely need to with how strong they are. The average vampire can lift 500 pounds easy without a thought. They can hold some power over their own kind though, depending on the situation. See the information on sires and seals.
BIRTH: Vampires are not born as often as they are sired. That is because only born vampires (and male bitten vampires) can procreate. Also, they are only capable of producing children within the first 50 years of life, which for a vampire, is not much time at all. The incubation period is three months. Vampires have a lower body temperature naturally, but a newborn will be above 100 degrees. This will slowly decline until puberty. They are not born with fangs. They are grown by the ages of ten to fifteen. If fangs aren't grown by time the child is at least sixteen, it is assumed they are half of another race or species and are more than likely killed. They can consume human food until they get their fangs. At the point they hit this version of puberty, they must have blood to survive. Newborns are more than likely to die quickly if they are not cared for by an elder. It is not recommended that a born vampire procreate before the age of twenty when their physical transformation is complete. Born vampires grow at the same pace as humans until they hit about twenty.
AGING: Born vampires do age. They age in a different cycle that sired ones. Their ability to regenerate tissue is slow except in the case of healing after feeding. They have a low body temperature which allows them to eat less frequently and age less quickly. It takes fifty to seventy five years to age one year. Some vampires have had a year span as long as one hundred years time. This requires periods of rest though. Sired vampires do not age externally, however they will age internally. Depending on how old the vampire was that turned a human, is how long it may take to age. The older the vampire, the more aging that occurs (except in cases of elders) because the blood no longer has the same vitality and quality. The best time to sire is before the age of 100 if one plans to keep their child for a long period of time. A vampire will continue to age to deterioration, basically when they are nothing but bones. That is generally the time in which they commit suicide by fire. The final death by any other way would be too long and painful to endure. Born vampires grow at the same pace as humans until they hit about twenty.
SIRED: How do you create a vampire? It's not a very complicated process which is why vampires must always be very careful. Vampires have a poison in their saliva that turns humans. Dead blood clots and makes it easier for the poison to take over the body. A dead body will be the perfect breeding ground for the poison to make it's way. It cannot survive about ninety degrees for more than twenty four hours. As a body dies it lowers in temperature. The poison takes over and revitalizes tissue. The body becomes alive again. There is possibly memory loss for the brain has been deprived of oxygen for so long. There is a reason why vampires do not drink from corpses or kill their prey. After the poison has made its way all the way to the brain, transformation begins. The brain is reactivated and the person is technically alive again. They heal and become hungry. Most eat raw meat during this time. Calcium builds up in the gums and fangs are formed. This is a painful process that takes a week. One will not realize they are a vampire until this time. Also, their body temperatures remain low. Under 80 degrees. Depending on the size of the person is how long it will take to transform. Their veins will begin to become more visible through the skin. They'll lose a considerable amount of melanin, the pigment in the skin that protects it from ultraviolet rays. If they do not feed a week after they get their fangs, they will die. Their bodies will quickly deteriorate to ash (broken down calcium, carbon, and proteins).
TRANSFORMATION: Transformation is considered the time when one feeds. Not much happens but the fangs retract and the veins in the face may become more prominent. It is different for every vampire. For the most part they look like normal humans except of course the pointy teeth.
FANGS: Fangs are not their teeth. They are two sheeths of very strong bone that retract over the canines. They are difficult to break and painful to extract. Eventually they will always grow back.
FEEDING: Obviously they need blood. Raw meat works, but doesn't contain the proper amount of blood. It would take a great deal to reach a reasonable proportion. They have a decent ability to detect veins in a human body by its pulsation. The feed anywhere on the body that gives them the easiest accessibility. Many choose the thighs and the groin if they have time. It's less noticeable. Never drink them dry though because they stand the chance to turn. Generally one knows when to stop by how much the blood slows when it comes out. Avoid stopping their heart, that's the trick.
THE SUN: They will not die in the sun, but are susceptible to being burned if they are out in it too long. They burn very easily because of the lack of melanin in their skin to protect them. Sunblock is advised but may not be very effective.
DEATH: There are a few ways to kill them. Stopping their heart won't kill them immediately because they heal quickly and their brain is wired to start it up again immediately, like a backup generator. This is an unexplained medical occurrence. Cutting off their heads is a good way to get the job done, but be sure to destroy the brain if you want to avoid a shit load of pain. Burning them is most effective because it destroys all remains. Silver hurts, obviously, but it won't stop them. Wood is pretty much useless but some bacterias on natural wood can make them ill.
THE COUNCIL: A council depends on the coven. Read more about our two covens to be better educated.
VAMPIRE LAW: This is common law amongst vampires but varies from coven to coven.1. Never associate with a human or a were beyond hunting.
2. Conceiving a child with a human or were is forbidden and the product will be destroyed.
3. Action against the clan will result in imprisonment or death.
4. Never expose yourself to another race.
5. Do not stand in the sun for more than an hour.
6. Never kill a human unless left with no other choice.
7. If you kill a fellow vampire, you must create a new one.
8. Don't drink from a corpse.
9. Kill any werewolf you come into contact with unless otherwise advised.
